LIQUID LIPSTICK SERIES | JEFFREE STAR VELOUR LIQUID LIPSTICKS

Hello everyone! I hope you're having a good week thus far. In today's post, I'm going to be continuing my liquid lipstick review series and today, it's going to be on Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks.
Now, I know there's a lot of controversy past and present surrounding JS to say the least, but this post is purely a review of the product itself, not of him. Perhaps I'll get into my thoughts and feelings on some of the people behind these brands in another post!

On these lipsticks, Jeffree Star's website has to say:

"Our liquid lipstick goes on opaque, dries completely matte and stays on for hours! This product is 100% vegan & cruelty-free!(tips before use: exfoliate with lip scrub then apply to bare lips! Avoid food with oil… and no making out, kisses are ok!)"
In the UK, JS lipsticks are available for purchase on the website Beauty Bay and they retail for £16.00 each.

SHADES AND SHADE DESCRIPTIONS:

I currently on four of these lipsticks - they are:

Celebrity Skin - Pink-toned brown.
Rose Matter - Soft salmon.
Doll Parts - Creamy hot pink.
Androgyny - Blush toned mauve.

Packaging, Colour and Pigmentation:

The packaging is a hot pink design patterned with metallic stars and his signature logo. This definitely reflects JS as an individual and so I think the design is certainly suited to his brand and style. The packaging is also a little bulkier than most liquid lipsticks containers tend to be but this isn't a huge problem in terms of storage.

The wand on these liquid lipsticks is fairly short and is the classic doe foot design which is my favourite for precise application. The brush is also "fluffy" which helps to achieve a more feathered look once applied. With lipsticks however - especially matte ones, I do actually prefer quite a seamless and sharp finish and so I find this applicator on occasion to be a little hard to work with personally. It's nothing however that a bit of patience and sometimes a lip brush can't correct though and I know most people do like the feathered brush.

In terms of colour selection, there's a lot to choose from in this lipstick range. There's nudes, hot pinks, purples, classic reds and some more alternative colour selections too - it's Jeffree Star how can there not be?!
So I'd definitely say there's a colour for everyone here. These colours are definitely highly pigmented in my opinion and they do, as described, go on opaquely in one or two coats maximum! Even darker colours such as Androgyny don't have trouble within application and apply equally as opaquely as the lighter colours I own which I'm impressed with.

Application and Wear:

As mentioned, these lipsticks apply opaquely and evenly to the lips. They dry down in around 30 seconds to a creamy, matte finish. Similarly to the LimeCrime lipsticks, they are on the dryer side and as the day progresses, they do begin to feel slightly more dry. However, this isn't an uncomfortable feeling for me personally and I think it's definitely something that you can easily deal with - they do continue to feel light on the lips throughout the day.

In terms of layering, these do layer well with re-application later in the day. This is something I may choose to do around 4-5 hours in but only slightly on the very inner portion of the lips as it does tend to ever so slightly wear away there. I can easily get at least 6-8 hours wear however without desperately needing to re-apply although as I said, you may want to apply a little in the inner lip area.

There's little to no transfer with these lipsticks and they wear well in conjunction with eating and drinking which is always an important test for a liquid lipstick in my opinion.

Overall Thoughts:

Overall, I do enjoy these lipsticks and I would recommend them. If I was asked what I prefer over these and LimeCrime (as I feel they are the most similar I have reviewed so far), I would choose LimeCrime mainly for the slightly better wear and due to the fact that I prefer their application. Nonetheless, I do like these liquid lipsticks and I think if you're an avid collector of them or want to try a new one, you should definitely try these Jeffree Star Liquid Velour ones.

Don't forget I do have a liquid lipstick ranking list which you can check out to see where this lipstick and others rank!
