Review: Eucerin Dry Skin Replenishing Cream

As a sufferer of dry and sensitive skin, I'm constantly on the hunt for the perfect products. One that won't irritate my skin but will help to lock in moisture without feeling too heavy. It's a continuous journey but every now and then I find a product that I really like and that works. That particular product this time is from a brand called Eucerin and it is their Dry Skin Replenishing cream. In this blog post, I thought I'd do an in-depth review and tell you exactly why I like this product so much.

This is my first product from Eucerin and why that is I really don't know. The whole brand is pretty much centred around dry to very dry and sensitive skin so it's actually pretty ideal for me. This particular cream that I'll be reviewing is formulated for dry, tight feeling skin. The product claims to help rejuvenate the skin, gently moisturising it without irritation thus helping to eradicate dryness and scaliness on the skin. The cream is also supposed to helped make the skin feel more supple over time, too.

So, the product itself is fragrance free and colour free so it's simply a plain, white cream. This is nice because it helps to further steer away from any possible irritation or reaction an otherwise fragrance cream may cause. I've certainly had my fair share of the stings from a fragranced product so it's nice to know that this won't happen.

The cream has an oil-in-water texture which means that when I applied it, it absorbed really well and I also felt that this factor meant I only required a little bit for my whole face. 75ml for a product you can use on your whole body really doesn't seem a lot but it's actually surprising how far it goes.

Once applied to the skin and it was absorbed, my skin felt very smooth and soft and at the same time didn't feel too oily or heavy. The cream is very light on the skin and this makes wearing it comfortable - I also found it to be a really nice base for makeup.

After the first two days of trying this product, I noticed a difference in the appearance of my skin. I previously had a few patches of red, dry skin specifically on my cheeks and these disappeared after just a few applications of this cream. My skin is now soft with no current dryness and it was particularly moisturing and beneficial to my eyelids with I found were beginning to feel slightly dry. The whole of my face feels supple and moisturised and I would definitely say that this product stays true to it's claims for my skin. 

Overall, I'm very impressed with this cream and I definitely want to try some more Eucerin products. I have not used this cream very much on the rest of my body but I can imagine it would have similar results. If you have dry skin or just want a cream that's going to really moisturise your skin, I'd give this a go for sure. I purchased mine from Amazon!

Liquid Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks are a product that I've been enjoying for a while now. You get the pigmentation and finish of a lipstick with the ease of application that a gloss can provide you. For these reasons, they've been my go to lipsticks and in the beauty world they're becoming more and more popular.

So, in this post I thought I'd run through some of my personal favourites and tell you what each brand says about them!

First Impressions: Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette

Hi! Today I'm going to be sharing with you a first impressions / mini review of my first ever Too Faced product! I recently purchased their Cat Eyes palette and in this post i'll be giving you a run down of the shadows as well as what I think of it so far!

So, the Too Faced Cat Eyes palette contains nine completely new shades in matte, shimmer and glitter textures. Three of these nine shades can also be used as liners - worn both wet and dry. As you can probably tell by the name, this whole palette is themed around the classic cat eye look, updating it with different textured shadows in both warm and cool tones.

First of all, I really love the look of this palette - Too Faced is known for their cute, feminine packaging and this is no different. I love how the design clearly features around the feline theme of the palette with the leopard print and the black and gold adds that feel of glamour.

Now, the shadows themselves... As I said we have nine shadows, 3 shades that appear to be for highlighting and 6 more, 3 of which can be used wet or dry. The shades we have are:

• Purr: A very pale, nude pink.
• Tiger's Eye: A metallic mid bronze/copper shade.
• Leopard: A chocolate brown with gold shimmer running through it.
• Meow: A very light, peach-cream shade with a matte finish.
• Pussy Cat: A mid pink/lilac shade with a shimmery finish.
• Jungle Love: A blackened purple shade with pink glitter running through it.
• Kitten: A light pink pearl shade.
• Kitty Glitter: A silver metallic shade.
• Panther: A deep, matte black.

I love the names of these shadows! And they all seem relevant to their colour as well which I think is a really nice, novel touch. All of the shadows are nicely pigmented with my personal favourites being Pussy Cat, Kitty Glitter and Tiger's Eye. These shadows also blend well and have great staying power. Along with the palette, you get a look book containing three eye shadow looks you can create using it - I think this a super helpful addition and it makes it really easy to start creating some initial looks with this palette - especially if you're feeling a little stuck.

Overall, I so far really like this palette. From the packaging to the pigmented shadows, I'm definitely satisfied with this product. As a lover of purple and pink shadows, this is a definite winner for me but if you're not keen on those colours, you may want to skip this. However, there are some other really nice colours in the palette and you definitely don't have to use the purple shades if you don't want to. I think this palette is actually quite versatile and you can create some really beautiful day or night looks which are particularly perfect for Fall!

Hey! It's been a little while since I've done a haul post and since I recently got some things from ASOS, I thought I'd share them here/ I took advantage of the awesome 25% off they had for students and got some things I'd been eyeing up for a while!

Face of the Day #6

Today I went for a simple yet timeless look - a smokey eye and a bold lip. I love this look and it's one I where I a lot. This look also gave me the chance to try out my Urban Decay Pulp Fiction palette and lipstick which I was very excited about. I just have to say that I think I've fallen in love with UD lipsticks, this particular one is SO creamy and soft and looks beautiful applied to the lips. I think I'll simply have to look in to getting some more...

Building Up Your Makeup Kit / Collection #4 - Highlighter.

Hey guys! In this post I will be continuing my 'Building Up Your Makeup Collection' posts this time moving on to highlighter!

1. Where and Why?

Highlighting is a great way to sculpt and well, highlight the face - it can help to give you a beautiful healthy glow as well as make points on your face look higher and therefore give you a more youthful appearance. It really is an effective and fairly easy addition to a makeup routine that I think makes a real difference to a look.

There are various places on the face you may want to highlight and for these areas you may find different kinds of highlighters work better for each. Places like the brow bone, the bridge of your nose and along the cheekbones are areas most people like to highlight.

2. Formulation and Finish:

Formulation and finish are two things I think you should really consider before purchasing or using a particular highlighting product. One of the main reasons for this is that different products work best for different people and you may therefore find a particular formulation easier to work with. Another reason is that you may find one particular finish a highlighter works a little better in a look than another.

Highlighters just like blushes and foundations come in various different formulations. The most common of these being liquid, cream and powder. You can also purchase highlighters in shimmery, pearlescent and matte finishes - and as I said, these finishes work better depending on the kind of look you are going for.

Cream highlighters come in pot or stick form and these are generally quite easy to work with. Their formulation and the colour of the particular highlight may also make them good primers or eyelid colours as well. Cream highlighters make for a more natural, subtle highlight and are easily to blend and manipulate.

Liquid highlighters are of course a lot thinner in consistency compared to cream blushes and because of this they can be mixed with other liquid products such as your foundation or moisturiser. They can create a beautiful, subtle highlight all over the face and either mixed in with another product or used alone.

Benefit's High Beam is a great liquid highlighter. You can mix this product
with foundation and your moisturiser for an overall facial glow.

Powder highlighters once again can be used as a eyeshadow colour if you so should desire and are generally the formulations with the strongest pigmentation. This means that it's easy to go overboard with then especially if they have a shimmery finish so it's always good to make sure you're not using a heavy hand when working with them.

In terms of finish and when you'd want to use them, it all really depends. Usually, on an eyeshadow look for instance, you'll generally want to use a matte powder highlight or simply something without shimmer in order to not over power the rest of the look - especially if you've already used shimmer. 

If you want a very glowy and summery look however, shimmer is great to give that effect as it makes you look very healthy and youthful - though of course, it's possible to go a little overboard so be wary! For something more subtle, go for something with less shimmery and moving towards more of matte finish.

3. Shade and Skintone:

When highlighting, especially along areas of the face such as the cheeks and nose, you may want to consider the colour of the highlighter you are using. Although the colours of them tend to be sheer on the skin, they do still provide a subtle tint and certain shades are more flattering on certain skin tones.

As a girl who has more of a fairer skin tone, I really enjoy slightly yellow-toned champagne colours and pearly pinks. Peachy and deeper golden tones may work better for those of you who have medium-dark skin!

** Concealers can also be used to highlight places such as a under the eyes and the high points of the face (think of the Kim K look). For that, you might want to get a concealer around 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone! **

Review: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in 'Hot Pepper'.

Hey! Today I'm here with another lip product review. I really seem to be on a lip product hype lately, huh? Anyway, the lip product in question in todays post is going to be the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in the shade '03 Hot Pepper'. Bourjois describe this product as a 'bold, matte, long lasting colour with 24HR hold'. It's also described as a velvety texture that is not drying.

I personally love liquid lipsticks and I thought that this particular product looked pretty similar to the Lime Crime Velvetines which I've wanted to try for ages so I decided to pick one up. Upon first looking at the product, I really like the packaging - I think it's sleek and looks high quality and that's always nice to have in a makeup product. 

When applying this product to my lips, I noticed that the formula is a lot thinner than most liquid lipsticks and this fact meant that you needed to build up the colour in order to have a totally opaque application. For me, this meant around 2-3 applications for a full opaque coverage. I also noticed that the lipstick was indeed creamy and non-drying on the lips, it felt smooth to wear and apply and was very comfortable. 

This product is very pigmented once you've got it completely opaque and I do think think the fact it's thinner is actually a good thing. As Bourjois themselves suggest, you can use this as a lip stain for a more natural look or build it up for more intense and bold colour - I think therefore this explains the thinner formula. Though I still loved the colour, I did find that this product is definitely a bit more of a orangey-red once applied to the lips. I wouldn't say it is as true a red as it is in the packaging but it's still a very deep and bold colour nonetheless.

True to the name, this product does feel velvety on the lips and despite it's matte finish it still looks creamy rather than dry - this is something I'm really happy about because a lot of matte lipsticks can look really drying. It also wears well for around 6-8 (the 24 hour thing is a little silly) but can fade from the inside when eating or drinking - of course this is easily remedied by a small reapplication.

Overall, I really like this product and I'd definitely recommend it. Lately, I love liquid lipsticks and this one is no exception - the smooth finish is really beautiful and it's very buildable into a lovely bold colour. It's a little on the pricier side for a drugstore lip product but I do think you get value for money in the overall quality. You can buy the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks here for £8.99.

First Impressions: Urban Decay PULP FICTION Collection!

Hey guys! So, today I am pretty darn excited because I have just received my order from Debenhams containing items from the new Pulp Fiction collection from Urban Decay! This limited edition collection was released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the cult movie Pulp Fiction and the products in the collection are meant to replicate the iconic look of it's female lead, Mia Wallace. It has been available in the US for around a month or two now I believe and it was released in the UK on September 1st.

I'm really not one to usually buy into the collections that a lot of makeup brands like to release - unless of course something really catches my eye. This was the case here and as a Tarantino fan, I really couldn't resist owning some pieces of this collection. To my delight, Mia Wallaces look is right up my street and I knew I'd definitely wear and get use out the products. The two things that of course grabbed me were the eyeshadow palette and the lipstick and these were what I purchased. The rest of the items in the collection seem to be kind of like add-on products and didn't really catch my attention. I also think they're easily replaceable by other similar items so I didn't feel the need to get them.

So, the palette has the 'PULP FICTION' logo on the front on top a shiny black background. The palette also has on the front of it the infamous Ezekiel passage voiced by Samuel. L. Jackson in the film - I love this addition as this is one of my favourite and most memorable scenes. Inside of the palette, you have a helpful step-by-step eyeshadow guide giving you a suggestion on how to use the shadows to achieve the Mia Wallace look. You also get a generously sized mirror and a cute, mini brush in a beautiful bright red colour.

The shadows themselves are really great, basic everyday colours and would be lovely used alone or with brighter shades. From right to left we have: Righteous - a light cream nude, Tyranny - a warm toned matte brown, Vengence - a deeper brown shadow with matte-satin finish, Furious - a white satin shade and finally, Anger which is a black satin with slight sparkle in it. From feeling the shadows, they are smooth and buttery and I can tell that much like my other UD shadows, they will blend nicely. They're also really beautifully pigmented and you definitely get a lot of colour payoff.

Onto the lipstick, the outer packing of the box is again black with the yellow logo and the inside is red with Jackons's speech running down the length of it in black. The shade of this lipstick is simply called 'Mrs Mia Wallace' and it is a gorgeous deep, blood red colour. The lipstick has a creamy finish and is very smooth and easy to swatch from first try. I can also see from swatching that it too is very pigmented.

I also love the actual lipstick packaging - it feels really well made and kind of has that 'expensive' look and feel to it which is a nice thing to have in a higher end lipstick. It's a jet black tube this time for the collection and I really love the sleek and stylish design.

So, overall I'm very impressed by this collection and the items that I specifically purchased. I absolutely love the idea for the collection as Mia Wallace is such an iconic character. Her edgy, grungey style is so popular right now so I think this is a really well timed released from Urban Decay. As well as that, I love the packaging of the products and of course the products themselves appear to be really nice quality and impressively pigmented. I'm excited to give these a full and proper try and I'll definitely be back with a review for each of them so stay tuned! 

I'd recommend the palette to you in particular if you've been eyeing up any of the Naked palettes. Particularly the Naked Basics palette as this is a slightly cheaper alternative though still with more or less the same shades. It is however limited edition as are all the products in the collection so make sure if you want them to get them soon - I got mine from Debenhams!
