Face of the Day: Bronze and Berry Tones

Hey everyone! I'm officially on my Easter holidays from Uni and while I've still got some work I need to be doing over it, I do have more time I can dedicated to blogging!
So with that, in todays post I thought I'd do a face of the day. In this look I'm using one of my favourite combinations: bronze and berry tones. I think a bronze smokey eye looks so beautiful on any eye and a berry lip is one of my most loved colours.

My Current Top 5 Foundations for Dry Skin

Having dry and sensitive skin sucks. Being a girl that enjoys wearing makeup with this skin type sucks even more because that can sometimes prove difficult with certain products.
For a while now, I've been on the hunt for the perfect foundation that won't emphasise dryness but will also be gentle on my skin and help to conceal redness and blemishes like a foundation should. In this post, I'm gonna share with you my top 5... enjoy!

From L to R:
Mac Studio Fix Fluid, Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour,
Revlon ColourStay, Bourjois Healthy Mix,
Rimmel Wake Me up

1. MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC20 - £21.50

This for me is a pretty full coverage foundation and it can be quite oily in finish. So, it's definitely not one for acne prone skin, but for my dry skin - I love it. I think that it covers blemishes really well and for me, it lasts the whole day. You definitely have to blot and powder once or twice but other than that, I really like this foundation. There's a not an amazing colour range in MAC foundations for those of us with paler skin but this is a decent match for me (I'm an NC20).

2. Rimmel Last Finish 25 Hours in Soft Beige - £7.99

This is a foundation that I have only recently come to try but have heard a lot about. It's a full coverage foundation and though the shade I bought is a little too dark, it oxidises on the skin over time and doesn't look that obvious. It blends nicely and covers blemishes and uneven skin well. Though 25 hours is probably a bit of a push, from wearing it during full days of Uni, I can certify that it does last well. It's great for my dry skin and it doesn't cling to problem areas which I like.

3. Revlon Colour Stay in Buff - £12.49

This was a saviour for my skin when it was at its worst - it covers redness incredibly well for a drug store foundation providing you with a buildable full coverage that doesn't feel heavy. It blends well and lasts for a long time on the skin. It also comes in different formulas depending on your skin type so this is one that anyone can use.

4. Bourjois Healthy Mix in 52, Vanilla - £10.99

You've probably heard a lot about this one, particularly because it's supposed to be a brilliant dupe to Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. Whilst I've not tried the Chanel version, I really love this foundation and have done for quite a few years now. It feels so light on the skin and it gives a finish that actually looks like skin, too. It's not cakey and blends like a dream whilst still covering uneven skin tones and redness well. A great Summer foundation.

5. Rimmel Wake Me Up  in Ivory -  £8.99

This foundation provides me with about a medium coverage yet it stills feels really nice and light on the skin. It has this lovely sort of shimmer within it with gives the face a fresh, dewy glow. Now when I say shimmer, I definitely don't mean glitter so don't worry, I just mean well, glowy. This range has a nice choice of colours for the paler girl and it also has a good staying power, too. This has been my go-to foundation lately and I can definitely see it staying in my collection.

And that's it for my top 5, what would be your picks?

REVIEW: Denman Brushes

Haircare has become something that I've been wanting to invest more time and well, money in. I want to be able to look after my hair a little more and hopefully find good quality products that are still affordable and effective. So, I thought a good place for me to start would be with getting a good set of brushes together.

Denman is a brand I've heard a lot about in the beauty community and I received my very first one for Christmas just gone. I now have 3 of their brushes - varying in both size and use - and having had them for a while now, I think I can give you all a good review of them as well as letting you know why I like them and what I like to actually use them for.

This brush retails for around £6.75 and is as the name suggests, your classic hairbrush. It's one of those 'essential' hairbrushes for basic styling.

One of the things I really like about this brush is the fact that the pins (or bristles) of it don't have those horrible 'bead' things on the ends of them. As we probably all know, when those 'beads' break, it makes brushing the hair a very painful, scratchy experience. The pins of this particular brush however are made from nylon and are round-ended so there's no scratching.

The pins of the brush are nicely spaced between one another which I think is one the reasons that this brush is actually great for brushing out wet hair. I know, it's not recommended to brush wet hair but to be honest, I'm pretty sure we all still do it. If I don't brush my hair out it becomes a messy, knotty mess and with this brush, I can easily and comfortably brush out my hair without any pulling. It works similarly to my Tangle Teezer, in fact!
I also love the sleek, sophisticated design of this brush - to me it just screams quality. I love the shinny black finish of the brush and the engraved lettering of the brand on the back. I think it's a really lovely designed brush and I can definitely see this being used in professional salons as the brand says it is.

This brush retails for around £9.79 and is great for conditioning and grooming your hair.

It has these strange 'porcupine' like bristles on the brush, which help to evenly distribute the oils from your root to the tip of your hair. This therefore helps to condition your hair and improve it's health as well as making it feel really smooth and soft. I like to use this brush to finish of my styles for that smooth, sleek look as well as just for brushing my hair through the day.

Once again, I really like the classic black and red design of this brush. It's sleek in design and is easy to grip and use. This brush has really in my opinion improved the feel and softness of my hair and over time, I think I'll definitely be seeing more of a different with continued use.

This brush retails for £4.29 and it's primary purpose is sectioning the hair and taming fly aways or bumps in your up do's.

I think this brush works really well for those uses but I also find it really effective for backcombing due to it's long and tightly packed bristles. It's also perfect for combing out and taming that backcomb once you're finished with it or simply just for tidying up your look.
Unlike the other two, this is a little different in design and is instead a bright orchid purple, which as a lover of purple I personally like! This brush is very effective and it does it's job well helping give my thin hair some lift and volume.

So, those are my thoughts on Denman brushes and the ones that I have in particular so far. Overall, I think that as a brand, Denman offer quality hairbrushes for a very affordable and reasonable price. I'd definitely recommend then and a good starter brush would be the D3 Classic Styling!

HOW TO: Make Your Own Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino at Home!

I love coffee and so naturally, I'm a fan of Starbucks.
However, it can get costly going every single day and wouldn't it be nice once in a while to be able to make your own drinks at home?
Well, recently I figured out to make a caramel frappuccino (with coffee) which tastes pretty much the same as the Starbucks original! In this post, I thought I'd show you how you too can make your own at home as well. If you're prefer this drink without coffee, you can make the caramel cream version - which you do simply by replacing the coffee with 2 cups of the vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients:

250-300ml of Milk
2 Cups of ice
3 Tablespoons of Caramel Syrup
3 Tablespoons of Caramel Drizzle Sauces
1 Teaspoon of Sugar
Whipped Cream
200ml of Cooled, strong coffee

Instructions:
  • Prepare your coffee - make sure it's strong and then leave it to cool.
  • Grab your ice, caramel syrup, caramel sauce, sugar, milk and your cooled coffee and blend it all together until you have either a liquid, or a thick-slushie like consistency - this is up to your drinking preference!
  • Once you have blended this mixture all together, simply pour into a glass (this recipe should fill two, large glasses).
  • Then, add whipped cream on top and drizzle it with caramel sauce.
  • ENJOY!
